Maple Leafs lead the way in value -ForbesThe AP has confirmed that the Toronto Maple Leafs are once again the NHL's most valuable team leading the way over New York Rangers. This may come as no surprise to anyone with Leafs tickets as of late, as you have seen the incredible hometown support the Leafs get for each and every home game. The Maple Leafs are reportedly worth some $448 million. The New York Rangers were second on Forbe's magazine's annual ranking. The Rangers are worth "just" $411 million. The AP reports that the Leafs grew in worth by 9 percent over their value last year. The Montreal Canadiens are third on the list, with an estimated value of $334 million. After that the Detroit Red Wings are worth $303 million, while the Philadelphia Flyers are worth $275 million. The Stanley Cup loser's Pittsburgh penguins grew the most in the past year, growing a astounding 26 percent in value, all the way up $195 million. The Calgary Flames grew the second-most in value, gaining 21 percent to be worth #217 million. The average value for an NHL team is #220 million. According to Forbes, the average NFL team is worth $1 billion. The Columbus Yellow Jackets were the least valuable at a measly $157 million, but try telling that to anyone with Yellow Jackets tickets. The New York Islanders were second least valuable at $154 million while Phoenix rounded out to bottom with a net worth of $142 million. In what should be good news to all hockey fans, except perhaps those in Phoenix, the Coyotes were the only team to drop in value, down just 3 percent. not surprisingly, the Maple Leafs led in revenues with $160 million, then Montreal with $139 and then the New York Rangers with $137. It what could be bad news for NHL fans, a whopping 12 teams had a negative operating budget. The highest were the Philadelphia Flyers at minus $1.8 million, and the Bruins, at minus $3 million. Both those franchises are in the top 10 as far as overall value. By admin at 2008-11-14 22:04 | add new comment
